About this piece of art
The painting on the stamp is part of a series of works created by the unique creative tandem of professional painter Andrey Sokolov and legendary cosmonaut Alexey Leonov – the first man to undertake a spacewalk. In his young days Leonov had to make a choice between enrolling at an art academy and training at an aviation school. Leonov chose the career of a cosmonaut, but did not give up his passion for painting. He created hundreds of paintings dedicated to space exploration, with their reproductions widely circulating around the Soviet Union. The works created in collaboration with Sokolov were used on the famous postage stamps from the "15 Years of the Space Age" series. One of the stamps from this series is for sale here in a block.
