About this piece of art

This watch is made in the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg. The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is the oldest factory in Russia; it was founded by Peter the Great in 1721.

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin made the first manned flight into space with Vostok 1. In honor of this event, the Petrodvorets Watch Factory called its watches "rocket", or Raketa / Paкéтa in Russian. Raketa watches were produced for the army, navy, polar expeditions and civilians.
