Vintage first aid box (early 1950s, we are told - the typography of the word "Verbanddoos" is different from most other 1950s first aid boxes we have seen before). Produced by Brocades, Dutch design.
Dimensions: length: ± 47 cm / width: ± 26 cm / height: ± 10 cm
Beautiful large first aid box manufactured by N.V. Koninklijke Pharmaceutische Fabrieken v/h Brocades - Stheeman & Pharmacia in Nijmegen (Netherlands).
This is a vintage item. User marks consistent with age as shown in the photos.
Brocades was a Dutch pharmaceutical company founded in 1798 by Willem Brocades in Meppel. The company started as an apothecary, but it also went on to manufacture products and preparations for surrounding pharmacists.
Acquired the designation Royal in 1905 (hence the little crown above the Brocades word mark). In 1907, the company was converted into a limited company; the "Royal Pharmaceutical Factory v/h Brocades & Stheeman".
A good number of takeovers and mergers followed after the First World War. In 1933, the NV Brocades & Italie was established in Surabaya (Dutch East Indies) as a pharmaceutical wholesaler. After World War II, the head office moved to Amsterdam, but the main factory remained in Meppel.
More takeovers and mergers followed. In 1967, the company merged with Delft's Koninklijke Nederlandsche Gist- en Spiritusfabriek to form Koninklijke Gist-Brocades NV. Gist-Brocades was incorporated by DSM in 1998.
So you have a real piece of history in your hands with this beautiful box.
